Role: Design Scripter
Engine: Unity
This was a project I really loved working on. Below the Sand was a school project with the goal of building a horror game around a unique mechanic, along with a number of scripted events to get the player into the right mood. The project was built in Unity, with almost all of the functionality built using visual scripting using the PlayMaker Visual Scripting plug-in. I cooperated with one other designer on this project.
The game is a first-person horror game in which the player is being hunted by a sand worm – a giant worm that travels underground and is attracted by sound. If the player moves onto the sand or makes too much noise, the worm is attracted to the player’s last known location. If the worm reaches the player, it shoots up from the ground to try and eat the player. Houses, rocks and other objects in the sand can be used as safe areas, and the goal is to escape the worm by any means possible.
